Kristopher Hull is a pianist who has received international acclaim for bringing classical music out of the concert hall and into the world. In the spirit of that great knight errant, Don Quixote, he pushes a 1964 Baldwin upright piano performing the music of Chopin and Mozart free of charge all over New York City - he doesn’t play for tips. However, you can make a donation of support. If you want to experience his playing (and charming personality) in person, you can head out with him on a musical adventure in Central Park, hire him for a private soirée in your home or use him to help elevate stagings at an open house listings.
He has appeared on NBC 4 NY, WPIX 11 New York, Manoto+ TV London, VOA Tehran and many other outlets.
On his highly praised Instagram page he collaborates frequently with major New York City accounts such as @whatisnewyork, @newyorkcitykopp, @917vis and @AllDayNYC.
Having grown up in Kenya and Greece, the son of a wildlife photographer, he later studied architecture at Rice University. During his college years Kris left school to pursue a career as a professional cyclist. With the Tour de France squarely in his sights, an advanced case of Lyme disease struck him down and forced him to stop racing at the age of 20. With the loss of cycling he found solace in playing the music of Chopin - he had played the piano most of his life and last began to take it seriously.
After a few years of wanderlust during which he wound up working on a 127’ sailboat that took him across the Atlantic (as well as throughout the Mediterranean and Caribbean) he eventually found his way back to land and committed his life to the piano. He began to practice up to ten hours a day in homes he made over the years in Fiji, Bangkok, Berlin, and Morocco. It was while living in Tangier that he read Don Quixote and first conceived the notion of turning himself into a pianist errant, traveling the world and bringing Chopin to those in need.
Kris first launched a piano on wheels in Miami in 2008 and now lives with his wife and son in Chelsea, Manhattan.
